Now, onto some summer fun...

Today, I've decided to link up with some lovely bloggers. I may be a little late to the party, but it sounds like fun, so I'm game to be fashionably late.

My first link up is with First Grade an Fabulous! DeAnne is hosting a Picture Book Linky Party - my FAVE! But wouldn't you know it...I joined in week 4. Oh well!

This week, the picture book theme is Rhyming Books!

I love me a good rhyming book. There is nothing more fun than reading a terrific tongue twister. Rhyming is such an important skill for children to understand, play with, and develop language. Bill Martin, Jr. is a fave author among young rhymesters  And, obviously, Dr. Seuss is the master of the rhyme, but there are some other fabulous authors worthy of my favorite rhyming book spots.

The Day the Goose Got Loose by Reeve Lindbergh and Illustrated by (a personal fave) Steven Kellogg.

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly by Simms Taback. I love the pictures in this edition in particular!

Silly Sally by Audrey Wood. This was a favorite of my toddlers way back when I was a toddler teacher. This one is so fun to read aloud!

Sheep in a Jeep by Nancy Shaw. This was a favorite of mine when I was a child! It is still a favorite of mine. I'm partial to books in which animals act like people...like wear hats and drive jeeps.

Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans. This book was another favorite of mine -- the whole series really. I especially loved it because I was told I looked like Madeline when I was younger. Madeline, and Ramona Quimby.

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I love everything Shel Silverstein has ever done...including his adult poetry. Check it out-- some dark stuff.

My laptop. Can you tell I love The Giving Tree?
Parts by Tedd Arnold. While this book totally grosses me out - it's great for my 2nd and 3rd graders...especially the boys!

Hippos Go Berserk! by Sandra Boynton. You can't go wrong with Sandra Boynton - she's brilliant! You also can't go wrong with a story about hippos going berserk.

Want to join in on the fun? Link up with First Grade and Fabulous! So easy...

  1. Post the Linky image above.
  2. Post it on your blog post and link up with this post.
  3. Write about your faves, then add your blog post to the inlinkz.
It's that easy!

Now, onto another fabulous link-up, with Just Reed! This linky is called the Ten Pin Linky, in which you share your 10 favorite Pinterest pins. This week, the theme is writing pins!

Here are my have 10 (in no particular order)

1) Topic Sentence Anchor Chart!
Check out the original post here.
Topic sentences are so difficult to teach, at least for me. I love anything that helps with this :)

2) Pencil Poster
Original source: Second Grade Style
What a great poster to help organize the writing process! This inspired me to create my own...of course I don't have pictures...

3) Hamburger Writing Freebie
Check out this great FREEBIE!
I love anything that helps my kiddos visually is fabulous!

4) Beginning Writing Rubric

The website I found this from does not exist anymore, sadly. But, this pin has inspired me to modify this rubric slightly for some of my beginner writers and readers.

5) Double Check Writing Reminders

This is also a FREEBIE!
I like to staple these to the inside of their writing folders. For some of my kiddos I provide them a copy with each of their writing prompts.

6) Main Idea and Details Visual
Original source is none other than The Clutter-Free Classroom!
Often, main idea and details are taught with writing, but I love to teach it along side paragraph writing, as it helps students to compose their own ideas using these strategies. Plus -- this is another great visual!

7) Sentence Surgery
This post comes from here

Such a great, hands-on activity! Really helps children grasp concept of punctuation!

8) Teaching How-To Writing
Delightful post with step-by-step instructions from the Teacher Wife
I love this idea! Teaching kids how to write a multi-sentence paragraph describing how to do an activity. I love the way this little craft turned out too!

9) AH-MAZING Writer's Bulletin Board!
Check my pin here!
Isn't this bulletin board fabulous!?! I love how it explains what writer's do, as well as the skills that will be taught during the school year. Genius!

10) Interactive Writer's Notebook!
Awesome Writer's Notebook - never seen anything like it!
I just adore this amazing product from Mrs. Patton's Patch! Such an amazing idea for a writer's notebook! I'm in love...
