Review: Natural Calm Magnesium Powder

This post has been sponsored by Natural Vitality, the company who makes and distributes Natural Calm magnesium supplement. All content and opinions are my own.

When Natural Vitality contacted me about doing an unbiased product review for Natural Calm, I jumped on the opportunity! I have been seeing this product pinned all over Pinterest, on co-worker's shelves, and being showcased on blogs I follow. As someone who devotes their time and energy in alternative health practices, I've been intrigued by this product for some time, but had not gotten around to purchasing it. (blame my lack of energy...)

Why is Magnesium Important?

Magnesium is one of the most important nutrients for our bodies. We are able to get magnesium through our diet, but for a variety of reasons (including lack of nutrient-dense soil and stressful lifestyle), many of us struggle to get a sufficient amount of magnesium through diet alone. When this happens, supplementing with the nutrient is key. Natural Calm is a powdered magnesium supplement that easily dissolves in water and helps to restore magnesium to optimal levels.

How do you know if your magnesium deficient?
A very common deficiency, a lack of magnesium can show up as a variety of symptoms, such as:
  • Low energy (read above)
  • Anxiousness
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia (yes, both!)
  • Depression
  • Headaches
  • Constipation
  • Stress
  • Muscle spasms and cramps
  • Irritability
  • and so much more!

How did I know I needed magnesium?

According to Natural Calm, 4 out of 5 adults would benefit from a magnesium supplement (or, ya know, 80%!). Based on the symptoms above, I determined it may be beneficial for me to supplement my diet with magnesium due to a decrease in my energy level and increase in my stress, headaches (significantly), anxiety and depression symptoms.

Benefits of Magnesium Supplement
  • Supports healthy muscles and nerves function
  • Supports a healthy heart
  • Supports a healthy immune system
  • Helps keep your bones strong
  • Helps regulate blood sugars and blood pressure
  • Decrease stress levels
  • Increase energy and alertness
  • Ease headaches and migraines
  • Helps metabolize different vitamins, amino acids, and carbs

Take Note
Not everyone will require the same dosage. The dosing on the side of the bottle indicates 2 teaspons daily, to be taken in smaller doses throughout the day. Natural Calm stresses the importance of starting with smaller doses to determine the best dose for you through trial and error. How will you know if you've had too much? Loose stools, which may not be the worst thing, depending on symptoms you are looking to alleviate (read above).

My Experience

I received this product in February and took it (somewhat) consistently for almost a month. Here's what I noticed:

A significant decrease in headaches: I was never someone who struggled with headaches. If I got one, it was rare and pretty mild. Over the past few months, I had begun getting headaches almost daily and they were debilitating - to the point I'd have to leave where I was to go to my dark home and sleep (Migraine perhaps?). I was so intolerant of these that they would almost knock me out with pain. A day after I received this product in the mail, I complained of a headache to a colleague while at work. She told me I should try magnesium - to which I responded with "I have a new bottle in my office!" I immediately made myself a glass of water with the powder and before I knew it, I was back on track without even realizing it. A few hours later, my colleague came to my office and asked how my headache was. It was gone! It didn't feel like a coincidence, considering that once a headache had started previously, there was no stopping it. This was enough to convince me I needed to explore this more (and be consistent with drinking it!)

I thought the flavor (Raspberry-Lemon) was great - not too sweet, not too strong. It doesn't taste like Crystal Light - it's a very subtle flavor so you may be craving more fruitiness. Resist the urge until you know the dose that's right for you!

An imprecise measurement. I like to add the powder before adding water, so that the pouring of the water will help to mix it up as well.

Here I'm adding my office's water cooler water to my favorite tumbler. The solution mixes up so easily - it requires very little effort to dissolve!

My Next Steps
  • Order more for myself (don't need it quite yet because there are over 50 servings per container!)
  • Spread the word of this product!
  • Get my husband on board (he's been VERY stressed lately with an increase in muscle pain post-workout, so he may benefit from taking a supplement.
