5 Faves: My Top Oatmeal Recipes
Who doesn't love a warm, creamy meal in the morning? While some might prefer a crispy egg and cheese sandwich, or a stack of fluffy pancakes, I reach for a bowl of oats to satisfy my cravings. Not only do I think they're delicious, but I find them highly satisfying and manage the ravaging hungry I experience mid-day with other breakfast choices. The key to a satisfying oatmeal bowl? Read below to find out about my favorite recipes.
1. Blueberries and Honey
I use frozen wild blueberries (FAR superior in taste and nutrients) and local raw honey (same deal with the honey). A delightful bit sweet and tart. Delicious combo!
2. Strawberries and Coconut
I also use frozen strawberries as well, if only because I don't eat them fast enough when fresh. Add some unsweetened (although still sweet) shredded coconut for a delightful tropical twist!
3. Apples and Cinnamon
A classic for a reason. Chop up your favorite apple (I usually use half the apple, then save the other half for my snack later), and sprinkle in some cinnamon. Perfect!
4. Banana and Nuts
Great combo of the creamy banana and the crunchy nuts of your choice. I tend to go for walnuts or almonds. I generally use half-3/4 of a banana (ripe = more sweet!), and share the rest with my dog. You could probably just save the rest in the peel and bring it with you as a snack for later in the day as well.
5. Brown Sugar and Berries
Brown sugar and maple are a classic, but this twist eliminates the additional sweeter (maple syrup) and adds some natural sweetness paired with the nutrients of berries. I use frozen berries (see above), or you could find other combos, like mixed frozen berries, raspberries, or blackberries (also a fave of mine in general).
As you can see above, I tend to stick with the sweet oatmeal recipes for breakfast. I just can't get behind the savory oatmeal options quite yet. Maybe I'll get there some day...
